New 'Birds on Bikes'
In the past we have featured the charity organisation ‘Birds on Bikes’, now we hear from the next generation of lady bikers.
Being from a biker family I suppose it was inevitable that I would love them too! My first experience of riding would be begging my Dad to take me as a pillion passenger round the windy roads to a local pub, while I clung onto his back like a cat on a terror strike yelling for dear life. From that moment on I was hooked! I watched in envy as my parents went through Kawasaki’s to bandits to Fazers to Fireblades and watched the numbers go up from 600cc to 1200cc, so you imagine my joy when I purchased my very own 50cc Yamaha Why. Before then I had to make do with sneaking by brothers Crosser 175 down to an abandoned road where I would blast up and down until it got dark.
No matter how long it took me to get to my destination or how cold or how wet it was I was just proud of passing my CBT and was riding on two wheels. So, when my mum set up the ever expanding Birds On Bikes charity fund raiser organisation, I couldn’t wait to get involved. However, a niggling thought told me that a 50cc straggling the back of the group from Edinburgh to Cardiff, wouldn’t be such a good idea as 50 bikers would have to travel at 40mph. I therefore graciously agreed to get involved in the promoting awareness side and providing food and drink to the thirsty participants. However, for two years I have watched on the sidelines as Birds on Bikes departed and this year I will be a member! Finally, In November 2007 I passed by full motorbike test after the first attempt, right on girls!
This year I will be participating in the three day ride across the country for charity, cruising through awesome scenery and partying at night with the gang, anyone wish to join me?? For more information on this fun filled ride planned every year for the first weekend in September, visit www.birdsonbikes.com. Make great friends, have a laugh and do your part for charity all on your motorbike! All that’s left for me to do is save money to buy a decent bike, who knows what the future can bring?
