Held Biker Fashion @ Bike Gear for Girls: Held celebrated 30 years of Biker Fashion in 2006, in the same year some of their products received 'Best Brand' awards and they achieved a ranking of 3rd position for their clothing in a motorcycle market analysis. Some of their collection is now available through our web-site.
The following information applies to various items throughout the Held range. If you want to know more contact us.
Held Materials
Held leathers are highly abrasion and tear resistant but also breathable and comfortable to wear. With the right care they are also extremely durable. With wear the leather will stretch and adapt to your body. Their clothing also offers the ability to insert extra protection held in place by pockets within the clothing. Ideally your leather wear should be a tight fit when you buy it so that as it wears the protectors will remain in the correct place.
Kangaroo Leather
The Kangaroo leather comes from the 'macropus giganteus' which is culled under control of the Australian Government. The special tanning makes the leather resistant to moisture and sweat making it less likely to go hard, crack or shrink. In a test of 0.8 mm leathers, Kangaroo leather is more tear and abrasion resistant than Cow or Hair Sheep Nappa.
Innovative Stingray Leather
The ball of thumb and knuckles are protected by abrasion-resistant stingray leather, backed with shock-absorbing gel pads. This ensues that a rider will slide more easily with less chance of fractured limbs. In a test carried out between Kangaroo and Stingray leather (penetration test carried out by Primasens Testing Insitute) the Stingray leather chaffed after 20,000 revolutions on a friction wheel as opposed to 4,000 revolutions for the Kangaroo leather.
Hair Sheep Leather
In contrast to the wool sheep, the hair sheep is a cross bread of sheep and goat. It lives in the mountainous parts of the African continent. The leather is soft and comfortable like that of a wool sheep, but the leather structure is thicker and much more hard wearing. Its resistance to abrasion and tearing is said to be up to 30% higher compared to cow hide of the same thickness. It is also more resistant to moisture, preventing shrinkage, cracking and hardness.
Cool Leather
Some black leather is tanned with the special TFL CoolTM System which makes it reflect the sun like lighter coloured leather. The surface temperature of the leather can be reduced by more than 20oC reducing the internal temperature to the wearer by up to 12oC in direct sunshine. It should only be treated with colourless dubbin as pigments in the dyes leather care may destroy the reflective effect.
Nylon
Spun from endless Polymide fibres, nylon makes up into tear resistant and durable fabric. It is usually treated for water resistance and specially impregnated to make it shed dirt. With all its safety features and durability it is also very light weight. This makes it particularly suitable for rainwear and as outdoor clothing it is designed to keep your warm.
PRO-TEC
This is a fabric made from 100% Polyester and is immensely durable. The basic features of this fabric are its elasticity, low moisture absorption, high tear resistance and outstanding 'memory', hence its good shape retention.
Cordura (Only by Dupont)
This 100% polyamide fabric is woven from precision cut Dupont hollow fibres. Codura® is more durable and abrasion proof than other nylons and is therefore most suitable for heavy duty use. Codura® fabrics have a comfortable feel and a natural woven appearance.
Polyamide
This is a synthetic fibre which hardly absorbs moisture and is extremely abrasion proof and tear resistant. Where durability and weather protection are concerned polymide is often the best solution.
Some of Held's leather and textile jackets and jeans are machine washable. Please ask for more information.
Clothing Features in Held Products
Safety-Seam
Held use safety seams in all safety-critical areas which is particularly important for fabric reinforcement. This consists of two seams, one of which is covered by folded material which protects the inner seam in case of a fall.
Airguard
100% Polyamide. Airguard is a fabric made form specially developed 100% Polyamide fibres. It offers the wearer considerable comfort without additional weight. The air pockets in the fibre insulate the body from normal temperature variations, helping you to stay in control whatever the weather.
Du Pont™ Insulation System
A heat retaining thermal lining. This is extremely soft as its multi layered micro fibre system keeps you warm and comfortable, just like a protective shell. It provides excellent insulation with low weight and keeps working even after it has been washed.
3M Scotchlite™ Dynatec Reflect®
Are fabrics with built in reflectors providing safety at night for motorcyclists. A rider wearing Scotchlite material can increase their visibility from a distance from 30 m to 180 m.
Nanosphrere®
This nano-surface shrugs of dirt and water and protects your jacket from getting dirty, even after washing.
Schoeller® Keprotec®
Has a high percentage of Kevlar fibre and is therefore extremely abrasion resistant. It offers invaluable re-enforcement in motorcycle jackets, trousers and gloves.
Outlast®
Developed for the protection of astronauts against extreme fluctuations in temperature. The microcapsules absorb your heat when you are hot and then release stored heat to warm you when you are cold, thus reducing temperature fluctuations.
Climate Control Membranes
All climate control membranes have the same basic function: they protect the body from outside moisture, keep out the wind and transport sweat away from the body. To keep water out every seam is welded together with a special hot-sealed brand so that no water can penetrate from the outside.
